June 2010

Well, another year is coming to a close.  It has been a rough one for many programs throughout the region, and we are hopeful that things will be looking better soon.  Our NJMEA State Board and President Bill McDevitt have been working diligently to research ways to keep our programs out of harms way.  More information about their efforts can be found on the NJMEA website.  Despite the cutbacks and reductions in teaching positions, you have continued to be supportive of our music students.  It makes me very proud to be a Region III music educator!

I am very happy to say that the SJBODA events this year were very well run and were high quality ensembles.  Many thanks go out to our coordinators who are listed in the executive board section of the website.  Without your tireless efforts, we would not be able to manage the many events going on throughout the year.  Also, thanks to our hosts, Eastern Regional – Gail Posey and John Stanz, Middle Twp. – John Bauman, Rowan University – John Pastin, Southern Regional – Phil Senseney, Delsea Regional – Scott McCarron, Mainland Regional – Keith Hodgson and Katie Howarth, and Absegami – Cheryl Breitman and Ben Fong.  And again, thanks to all of you for your hard work and dedication.

We will continue to push on and prepare for next year at our breakfast meeting on June 2nd to be held at Five Points Diner in Sewell.  All are encouraged to attend.  We will be confirming conductors for next year’s events and discussing other pertinent items.  If you are unable to attend, contact me and I will send you a copy of the meeting minutes so you are up to speed.

Again, thank you all for your continued efforts.  In the event that I don’t see you at the meeting, have a safe and healthy summer.
